UPDATE from CFD, Feb 6, 2011: The state prosecutor appointed to prosecute Mumtaz Qadri has been provided adequate security by the government and has agreed to conduct the trial, which will not benefit from any reaction or controversy that our letters might cause. We look forward to the trial commencing, and justice being done.
Note: On Feb 14, the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) is likely to formally charge-sheet Malik Mumtaz Qadri, who murdered Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer.

Sorry, no hope! Even if Qadri is sentenced to death he will be declared ‘Ghazi’ and ‘Shaheed’ to prompt others to follow him.

Sir, there is always hope. Even when it seems there is not, what can we do – ‘hathyar daal dein?” as the late great Aziz Siddiqui asked when I expressed my hopelessness to him during Nawaz Sharif’s Amirul Momineen wannabe days. Our weapons are our words, our ideas, and also our organisational skills. We will just ‘keep on keeping on’.

Dear Beena
You say: “The state prosecutor appointed to prosecute Mumtaz Qadri has been provided adequate security by the government”.
But I am afraid, the security provided to the prosecutor may also be qadrified like the one provided to ST. In any case he would be under pressure and as such may not be able to perform his duty honestly and efficiently without any fear.
Is it not a hopeless situation?
Why not start a movement to take the case to the International Court of Justice as a crime against humanity when obviously there is no hope of justice from the domestic court, which is likely to keep on delaying judgment in the case?
I am a layman but what can we expect from the ‘Qadri-garlander’ lawyers? Unhein to jeise saanp soongh geya he.
