How you can help

Subject: Urgent Support Needed: Post-Disaster Sanitation Kits

Dear friends,

Many of you have reached out with concern about the devastating news of the flash flood that surged down the Bhote Koshi in Nepal. Our team has responded to monsoon floods before, but this was very different. A monsoon flood builds over days. Rain accumulates, rivers rise, and warnings give people time to reach higher ground. Homes are flooded, but they can still stand. Yesterday, homes, buildings, bridges, and people were gone in a single moment. As the footage circulating online shows, there was no warning and no time to move, and the flood came down as a wall of rock and mud.

Amidst the shock of this tragedy, we want to let you know that we have already started to mobilize a targeted post-flood response, assembling post-disaster sanitation kits. The attached brief explains how displacement and post-disaster conditions can lead to diarrheal disease that places more strain on the emergency care system. It also offers information on what is included in the kits that we will start distributing to affected families immediately.

Our goal of $50,000 funds the first deployment of kits and lets us keep going as our community partners on the ground update us with new information. Each kit costs $12 and can serve a family of four for about a month. The government has declared Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading crisis-hit zones for three months.

We would really appreciate it if you share our gofundme page or this email with the post-disaster sanitation kit brief document with anyone who might help.
