Hello everyone! We are excited that Sapan News qualified for NewsMatch for the second year running. This is a collaborative fundraiser run by the Institute for Nonprofit News, a professional journalists’ body to which only half the media outlets that apply get accepted. The initiative supports 475 independent, nonprofit, nonpartisan newsrooms dedicated to public service like Sapan News.
Until December 31, 2024, NewsMatch will match every dollar donated to Sapan News, up to $15,000. That means all donations made by year end will go twice as far. ‘
This will enable us to continue the Sapan News mission of furthering the narrative of peace, dialogue, and regionalism, to provide nonpartisan journalism with context and nuance, with voices from the community and on the ground who go into the why and how beyond the headlines.
Sapan News began in 2021 with the support of some amazing volunteers and has been run on a voluntary basis until now. But we know that’s not sustainable.
Your support matters in our work, in our stand for inclusivity and democracy. We aim to uplift the Southasian community in the region and diaspora and build spaces for empathy and compassion. Your contribution will help amplify these voices and keep our community informed through Sapan News syndicated features that are published by more than 30 reputed media outlets in Southasia and around the globe.
Today, as we navigate the socio-economic and political landscape of Southasia, as the Southasian diaspora changes globally, there is a dire need for focused newsrooms like Sapan News, now more than ever.

- Engage and share: Follow us on social media – Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin, BlueSky, Twitter/X. Share our campaign with your networks.
- Volunteer: Volunteer for our NewsMatch fundraising campaign – help us win a Community Match for which NewsMatch will give us a bonus.
- Donate: Every donation, no matter the size, makes a difference and will be matched dollar to dollar.
Your support matters! Thanks to contributions from last year’s NewsMatch, we can now pay editors and writers and cover operating costs. This enables us to empower young journalists, build networks, and move towards sustainability.
