Devastated at the news from Peshawar. Unless and until Pakistan doesn’t get out of this confusion of ‘good Taliban’ and ‘bad Taliban’ and treat every single criminal act as a criminal act and move to punish those who perpetuate it, whether in the name of religion or for whatever justification, we will not begin to move out of this morass. Sharing a statement from Malala Yousafzai that was just released: “I am heartbroken by this senseless and cold blooded act of terror in Peshawar that is unfolding before us. Innocent children in their school have no place in horror such as this. I condemn these atrocious and cowardly acts and stand united with the government and armed forces of Pakistan whose efforts so far to address this horrific event are commendable. I, along with millions of others around the world, mourn these children, my brothers and sisters – but we will never be defeated.”

Journeys to democracy 
This was a dastardly act and must be condemned by all. My sympathies to all those who lost their children or a family member. This monster of fundamentalism has to be dealt with resolutely. Wish you all Pakistanis a peaceful life.
It is unacceptable that killings take place in the name of religion – in India or in Pakistan. Whether it is terrorist violence or Blasphemy laws or Babri Mosque. If we concede that murders are acceptable in one form, there will be more murders in another form too. At this juncture, it will be worthwhile to consider that Blasphemy laws are meant to kill your own people of other religions. Could there be any difference in the victim’s eyes for an ordinary Muslim citizen of Pakistan and a terrorist? Please take a somber view and think of women and children who really suffer whatever their faith and irrespective of the type of violence is inflicted upon them.

I agree with the author that actions against terrorists merit our support. I would however wish that some rational and concerted efforts were being made to counter terrorism and not just terrorists.
The people making policies and implementing those policies for some or against other jihadist groups have not been appointed to this task by the people of Pakistan. They do not represent our interests nor are they accountable to us. Our representative government must rise up to the task it asked for and was given by us.

My sincere condolences and empathies. I lost someone dear in the Mumbai attack and the Peshawar attack made me numb all over again.
